Saturday 23 March saw the first CAVMS Learn to Play Day at Pencerdd Music, Penarth. With the kind assistance of the Musicians Union, CAVMS provided 4 tutors – Jenny Weir (Woodwind), Lizzie Prendergast (Violin), Sion Jones (Brass) and Adam Williams (Guitar). Pencerdd Music opened up their demonstration and trial rooms for the teachers, and provided the instruments.
The doors opened at 10am and we saw a steady stream of about 50 people through the doors until 4pm. Most of them tried all of the instruments and a good number either purchased instruments or took away details of how to sign up for lessons in their school. In number of cases, the parents also had a go and the nicest story of the day was a lady who came in and said that she used to play Violin at school, reaching grade 7 standard. She had a go on one of our violins and was pleasantly surprised at how much she remembered! Later in the afternoon she returned to the shop, having gone home and found her old violin in the attic, and purchased a new set of strings and some music as she wanted to start playing again!
