Mothers Day was made all the brighter this year with some fantastic entertainment from a huge range of talented young musicians.
The afternoon started with St Cyres Windband under the baton of their new conductor, Sion Jones. They tackled some tricky repertoire with real skill and showed a great deal of maturity for such a young band.
Corpus Christi High School Choir were on fine form with a hugely varied programme, finishing with a fantastic rendition of “Seasons of Love” from the musical Rent.
The youngest group of the afternoon, Romilly Primary School Choir, entertained everyone with some lovely singing and fantastic choreography, led by their conductor Jenny Roderick.
CAVMS own Young Persons Training Orchestra performed 6 new pieces, including “Mars” from the Planets by Holst and “A Short Ride On A Fast Machine” by John Adams. These arrangements are part of the BBC “Ten Pieces” scheme in which the Orchestra is taking part this term.
The afternoon was rounded off in fine style by the CAVMS Youth Jazz Orchestra with a great mix of Big Band classics and original compositions. Special mention must go to Tom Jose (trumpet) and Felix Peterken (tenor sax) for some great solos.
